Review: Red - Sara Schoen

RED (Outsiders, #1)

Review: Red - Book #1 The Outsiders Series - Sara Schoen - December 2017
When Rose's parents left them behind, she changed her name to Red, and after being betrayed by a so-called friend Bailey, she decided that those with normal families aka The Outsiders were not to be trusted as they would only stab you in the back. The only ones you can trust are other foster kids.  Once Rose and Violet are taken in by the Williams to start fresh. Rose keeps sneaking out to see her old friends from the group home. Meanwhile, at her new school, Devon is intrigued by Red and wants to get to know her more, even if it means he will go through rough patches. Who can Rose trust as the book goes along - her old friends or Devon? Friendships and family ties will be tested when we discover that someone is setting up Rose and revealing her double life. This part I felt for Rose as she had been trying so hard to not get into trouble and then even her sister Violet wasn't on her side. When the truth is revealed, it teaches Rose a real lesson on those she can trust and those she can't. Rose's eyes will be opened as she learns that maybe some Outsiders aren't too bad and that when all crumbles, they may be the only ones left standing by you. I have to admit though, I felt the backstory with Rose's parents wasn't touched on as if my parents vanished, I'd want to know what happened to them. Maybe in either Sage or Violet's story, we may get a bit more information.
